disturbing complacency: Preparing for Christmas

A reading for each day in the four weeks before Christmas. Each day contains a quote from the Bible, a quote from a contemporary author, and a reflection on the life of faith.

The faith-filled life is not always easy. We have times of joy and peace. We inevitably have days of struggle and suffering. Faith gives us both comfort and challenge. Our faith seasons are cyclical. The spiritual life for Christians is about following Jesus.

Jesus and the prophets of the Hebrew Scriptures offer comfort for people who struggle and a challenge for people who live in comfort.

Themes to stir Up our comfort

The readings will take a deeper look at some of our 20th century institutions, customs, and traditions. The readings take a broader look at the images and life of Spirit, Jesus, Scriptures. The readings will dig into and study our relationships with creation, nationalism, and money.

You are invited to practice contemplation, reflection, and resistance as a God-called way of life in today’s world.

Regardless of the experiences life throws at us, we are called to remember and praise the Ever-Expansive, Ever-Creating, and Every-Faithful God.

From the Back Cover

Disturbing Complacency does not advocate a ‘cosy' view of Christmas but rather urges people to use this season to address some of the most important issues of our time. To do so the author makes creative use of quotes from other sources, interspersed with her own perspective on the subjects under consideration.
